It was on the 22nd of March 2022 when thousands of Nigerians turned speechless over the activities of Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. It became well known to Nigerians the giant efforts the ministry is taking towards making the lives of Nigerians better. Any doubts as to the great work the Ministry is doing was laid to rest as Nigerian’s and non Nigerians alike were given the opportunity to experience first hand the programmmes, activities, milestones and successes of the Ministry. So many doubts, unfounded allegations and fake news by nay sayers have been circulating in Nigeria over the activities of the ministry or why it was even created by the current administration but and the truth cannot be denied.
The Humanitarian Open House gave Nigerians the opportunity to see what exactly the ministry is doing, and ask questions about each of its agencies and programmes. Participants at the event were amazed when they got to the Humanitarian Hub and saw exclusive displays of how Nigerians are benefitting from this current administration through the ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. Disaster Management and Social Development. Displays like that of the Departments of the Ministry, the different programmmes under the National Social Investment Programmmes, the Agencies of the Ministry and other stake holders and partners provided all the required information on humanitarian interventions and social protection activities going on in the country.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) showcased their equipment and vehicles used to save the lives when there are disasters. Beneficiaries of the National Social Investment Programmmes from different states came willingly to give their testimonies of the impact of the programmme on their lives. I could recall while watching it on television when two Npower beneficiaries told everyone how the programme has aided them to be independent and entrepreneurs after going through a rough patch in life.
Persons with disabilities were also not left out. some of the disabled were at the hall and testified of all that the ministry had done for them.
The ministry launched the policy for internally displaced persons at the event.
When a friend called me and told me to turn on my television I was at first reluctant about it but I ended up screaming and extremely excited when I began watching it. It was not about the humanitarian hub or the testimonies by beneficiaries but the level of transparency by the ministry. Even oppositions whom we used to believe in became quiet because the transparency of Federal ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. It broke a record because the open house is the first of its kind where every individual can ask questions, get clarification and even give suggestions. Despite dignitaries being at the event nobody was denied access to the hall. Indeed, if other ministries can emulate from FMHADMSD Nigeria will become the country we have been dreaming about. I got to realize that it’s not about the politics but who is really ready to work for Nigerians, and today just like the physically challenged persons said at the event, as a Nigerian and a true patriotic citizen I am saying thank you Sadiya Umar Farouq.
